SSDP Welcomes Our New Gap-Year Team Members!

South Shore Dermatology Physicians is proud to welcome its newest gap-year team members. These accomplished pre-med college graduates bring enthusiasm, energy, and skills to their work as dermatologist assistants. While at SSDP, they will gain valuable experience that will help them get accepted to medical school and become successful physicians. They join three senior gap-year team members.

Dr. Lindsay Eminger offers, “Our Gap Year staff play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our practice. They assist with a wide range of tasks, including taking patient histories, scribing during visits, preparing for and assisting with biopsies and surgical procedures, and managing prior authorizations. Their dedication, professionalism, and positive energy contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere of the office. I am truly grateful for all that they do to support our patients and enhance the quality of our care.”

Our gap-year employees typically spend one to three years working with us before entering medical school.

Please join us in welcoming them to the SSDP team!

Hear from Our Gap-Year Staff

Catarina (Trina) Barros, Bucknell University, 2024:

Trina applied to medical schools and is waiting to hear back now. She says, “Working at SSDP has been an amazing learning experience. I’ve been able to see such a wide variety of cases, from acne to psoriasis to skin cancer, which has really deepened my understanding of the world of dermatology. Working with Dr. Croke and seeing how thorough and thoughtful he is with every patient has been especially inspiring and influenced the kind of physician I want to become. I love connecting with patients, being able to follow their progress over time, and feeling like I’m a part of their journey.

Hannah Hamdani, University of Pennsylvania, 2025

Hannah will soon be applying to medical school, and she credits much of her deepened passion for medicine to her experience with SSDP. As she shared, “SSDP has invited me to explore the many facets of healthcare, from advocating for patients by navigating the complexities of insurance, to observing intricate surgical procedures and witnessing the nuanced treatment of melanoma.

This opportunity has not only broadened my understanding of the healthcare system but also reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine. Each experience, guided by the empathetic team at SSDP, has highlighted the responsibility and privilege of caring for patients.”
