SSDP Welcomes New Gap-Year Team Members!

South Shore Dermatology Physicians is happy to welcome our newest gap-year team members! These accomplished pre-med college graduates bring enthusiasm, energy, and skills to their work as dermatologist assistants.

This summer, we have three new gap-year members: Cooper Donovan (Vanderbilt University), Charis Suh (Georgetown University), and Mya Grossman (UMass Amherst), joining five senior gap-year team members.

Dr. Daniel Loo shared, “We are super excited to teach them every aspect of patient care from front desk check-in to scheduling follow-up visits and everything in between. Our gap-year team members enable us to provide the highest quality care to our patients. Not only do they document the visits, but they also assist us in procedures, call patients with pathology results, and submit prior authorizations. Our practice could not thrive without them.”

At SSDP, we are invested in and committed to training the next generation of physicians. In exchange for sharing and demonstrating the critical skills of doctoring (including taking histories, performing exams, diagnosing problems, selecting therapies, and more), we provide mentorship for their career journeys. This includes reviewing applications, personal essays, MCAT counseling, and mock interviews. They usually spend one to three years working with us before entering medical school.

New gap-year team member Charis offered, "The past month has flown by as I've learned dermatology terminology, clinical workflows, and the technologies that keep SSDP running smoothly. Thanks to the supportive teaching culture at SSDP, the transition from studying medicine to participating in a practice has been enjoyable.

From day one, every team member has welcomed me with open arms, taking the time to teach and answer my questions. I've especially appreciated SSDP's intentional approach to learning, from educational talks to extended hands-on training. I'm incredibly grateful to be part of such a collaborative and encouraging team, and I'm excited to continue learning and growing in the months ahead!"

Please welcome our new gap-year team members this summer!
