SSDP Welcomes Its New Gap-Year Staff!

South Shore Dermatology Physicians is proud to officially welcome its newest gap-year employees. These accomplished pre-med college graduates bring enthusiasm, energy, and skills to their work as dermatologist assistants. While at SSDP, they will gain valuable experience that will help them get accepted to medical school and become successful physicians.

Dr. Viraj Shroff-Mehta says, “We enjoy mentoring these brilliant young minds as they prepare for their journey to becoming physicians. They already achieved a great deal as undergraduates, and I’m confident they will quickly adapt to their roles and continue to excel as dermatologist assistants, in medical school, and beyond. Over the seven years that we have integrated gap-year employees into our practice, we see the value they add in delivering the best care to our patients.”

Our gap-year staff will be bringing patients into rooms, obtaining relevant medical histories, scribing during visits, and assisting our dermatologists with biopsies and procedures, among the various other tasks they will perform as part of the SSDP clinical team. Our gap-year employees typically spend one to three years working with us before entering medical school.

Please join us in welcoming them to the SSDP team!

Hear from Our Gap-Year Staff

Emily Haraden, Fordham University ‘20
Emily applied to medical schools and is waiting to hear back now. She shared, “I noticed right away how supportive, warm, and encouraging everyone is here. The physicians always explain why they do certain things and help with our thought process. In answering questions for my medical school application, 99% of what I wrote about is tied to my work at SSDP. The experience I’ve gained here is invaluable.”

Esther Frenkel, UMass Amherst ‘20
Esther is applying to medical school soon. She said, “For the program, we are paired with one physician most of the time but also get to work with the others. All of the physicians are welcoming and extremely invested in our success. They provide mentorship regardless of where you are in your medical journey.”
